Doors and windows in Cirencester

Doors move over time. Old timber drops on its hinges, uPVC frames rack in the heat, window catches wear out. Martin handles the straightforward adjustments across Cirencester and the nearby Cotswold villages.

What is included

Sticking doors planed or re-hung. Hinges replaced or tightened. Strike plates adjusted so the latch catches cleanly. Internal door hanging (pre-hung or from scratch on existing frames). Window catches adjusted or replaced. Sash window cord basics. Draught excluder strips fitted around doors and windows. Door closers adjusted. Letter plates replaced. Garage side-door repairs.

What is NOT included

Lock changes and replacement locks should be done by a locksmith, who will have the right tools and security-rated parts. Full uPVC door or window frame replacements are a glazier's job. Same for double-glazed units that have misted between the panes. Cat flaps in glass or uPVC doors need specialist cutting equipment.

How long it takes

A sticking internal door that needs planing and re-hanging: one to two hours depending on the state of the frame. Draught strips across a front door, about 30 minutes. Window catch replacements vary by type, but most are under an hour.

Pricing

Common questions

My door sticks in summer but is fine in winter. Common with timber doors that swell in the humidity. Planing a few millimetres usually sorts it. Sometimes adjusting the hinges is enough without removing any material at all.

Can you hang a new interior door? Yes. If the door is pre-hung in a frame, it is a case of fitting it into the opening. Hanging a loose door into an existing frame takes longer but Martin does it regularly.
